Chemistry is an upper level science class that focuses on the interactions of atoms and molecules. This class will focus first on the composition and interactions of matter. We will begin with the basics of the atom and atomic theory then move into chemical interactions. My goal for Chemistry students is to develop a good foundation of chemical understanding. This course of inorganic chemistry should provide a good introduction for students planning to attend college or technical training. Chemistry in itself creates a challenge unlike those experienced in previous science classes. It requires a solid math background as well as the ability to comprehend very abstract ideas that are not always easy to grasp. Second quarter will focus on learning more about the naming of compounds, writing molecular formulas and developing a much deeper understanding of the electron orbital structure of atoms. During second semester, students will see an increased use of their algebra skills while finding various variables within a chemical problem. My best advise for Chemistry students is to practice problems continually and ask questions as we continue our study. Gaining a solid understanding of each topic throughout the year will make the various aspects of Chemistry connect and make sense as spring approaches. |
