• Ways Busy Parents Can Help Children Succeed On Standardized Tests

    Attendance Makes a Difference!!

Teachers can't teach students who aren't in school.  There's strong evidence that regular school attendance can result in significant test-score gains.  So remember:

    * Make sure you child is in school every day

    * Try not to schedule appointments during school hours

    * Don't take your child out of school for a family trip or activity.  If possible, schedule around school breaks and summer vacation.

    * Don't allow your child to be tardy.  Have them get ready the night before so they can get to school on time.

Good Health = Good Test Scores

    * Breakfast- Get your child in the habit of taking time for a nutritious breakfast every day.  Even toast and fruit will provide body and brain energy.  Parents can lead by example by eating breakfast with their child.

    * Sleep- Get your child into a regular sleep routine. . . then stick to it!  Most children need at least 8 hours of sleep each night.  Children like consistency, even if they won't admit it at the time.

    * Exercise- Encourage your child to exercise every day.  Exercise increases oxygen to the brain and helps with thinking and memory.  Rather than watching TV or playing video games, ask your child to take a walk with you or play an outdoor game.
