Fall 2019 Syllabus
PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS:
Food and Drinks
No food or drinks are allowed, as they may damage artwork. A sealed water bottle is allowed to be kept away from the tables.
Phones/Electronics
Cell phones or other electronic devices should be silenced and put away, unless I give permission to use them for academic purposes. If phones are not being used for academic purposes they will be confiscated and sent to Mr. Poepping’s office. Earbuds and headphones are not allowed. The entire class will listen to music together, so that all students can hear important information.
Bells
When the tardy bell rings, students are to be sitting in their assigned seats working on their current project. If students are present, but not sitting in their assigned seats they will be marked tardy. At the end of the class period the bell will not dismiss students, I will assure that the room is clean and orderly for the following class before dismissing students.
Homework
Students will not receive homework on a regular basis. They will be required to find and print or email their own images outside of class. Students will be prompted a few days in advance with the types of images they should be searching for, so they have plenty of time outside of class. Otherwise, homework will rarely be assigned. If a student needs extra time to work on a project, depending on what it is, they may have the chance to work on it at home.
Checking Out Supplies
If students would like to take their work home they are allowed to do so, as long as they check out the materials on a sign out sheet. I must sign off and agree, before the supplies leave the art room. I just ask that the materials be checked back in within a week.
Finishing Assignments Early
If students finish their assignments early, they will be assigned an extra credit project that challenges their skills and furthers their understanding of the current lesson.
Movies/ Videos
In class, we may watch movies or internet videos that relate to art or the content we are working on. By signing this syllabus, you agree to allow your child to watch movies or videos rated G, PG, or PG-13 that relate to the content taught in class. Some examples of the movies and videos I have shown in the past were Loving Vincent and various Bob Ross videos found on YouTube.
Most importantly, students in my art classes must agree to:
- Be respectful to other individuals and their artwork
- Follow all of the safety procedures for each project (some projects will require the use of hot glue guns, x-acto knives, box cutters, etc.)
Consequences for disruptive or unsafe behavior:
1st Offence: Verbal warning
2nd Offence: Clean art room for 10 minutes after school
3rd Offence: Write up
Insubordination, absolute disrespect for anyone in the room, or putting another student’s safety at risk will result in an automatic write up.
If a class goes an entire week without getting any offences, they will get to choose the music played in class on Friday. If multiple students receive offences throughout the week, there will be no music played in class on Friday.
Class Fees
Each student is required to pay a class fee, which assures that students have quality materials to work with. These fees go directly back to students by providing the supplies and tools they need. The fees go toward consumable supplies such as clay, paper, paint, wire, etc. that get used up each year. The yearly fee for all of the art classes is $20 ($10 per semester). Each student was aware of this fee when they signed up for classes. If students are unable to pay this fee for any reason, they can talk to me in private or email me so other arrangements can be made.
