Mr. Butler

Welcome!

I am excited to be teaching 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies at Shepherd. I was raised in a small town in Northern California before I attended and played basketball at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. After I graduated with my BA, I moved to Peru to teach English as a Second Language. Eventually, I returned to Simpson to earn my Master's Degree before I moved to El Salvador to teach at the American School of El Salvador. I am a firm believer that a strong social studies education is vital to being an engaged and informed citizen, and I am excited to contribute to the students at Shepherd. My courses strongly focus on the development of reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. A variety of methodologies are used to develop the aformentioned skills including, but not limited to debates, simulations, document based questions, primary source analysis, and projects.

In addition to education, I enjoy all athletics, fly fishing, music, and all outdoor activities.

I look forward to getting to know you.

Regards,

Mr. Butler
